As the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November 16 approaches, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to incite violence during the election.

In a statement by Ayo Fadaka, Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the PDP Campaign Organisation, the party urged President Bola Tinubu to warn Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa against using state resources to create security issues before the poll. The PDP also called on the Inspector General of Police and other security chiefs to take proactive measures against the alleged violence planned by the ruling party.

The statement said, “We have taken note of moves by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to disrupt the peace in Ondo State as the November 16 gubernatorial election approaches. Certain strategic actions have been taken to achieve these goals, and we have uncovered them.”

Responding to the accusations, the APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, dismissed the allegations as baseless and intended to distract the governor. He affirmed that Governor Aiyedatiwa is fully committed to maintaining peace and security in the state, rejecting any suggestion that the governor plans to cause unrest.

Otaloro stated, “The governor’s dedication to security is clear, and we reject the PDP’s unfounded accusations. Every security measure taken is legitimate and aims to improve safety in the state. We call on the PDP to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than fear-mongering and baseless allegations.” He further assured the public that Governor Aiyedatiwa remains focused on a peaceful and fair election.
