Oyo APC Condemns Makinde Over Naming of Housing Project After Late Hon. Akinremi
The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clashed with the state government over the naming of a housing project in honour of the late Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi.
Nigeria News 247 gathered that Akinremi, who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives until his recent passing, was elected on the APC platform in both the 2019 and 2023 general elections. A bye-election to fill his vacant seat is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The disagreement centers on Governor Seyi Makinde’s decision to commission a purported housing estate project named after Akinremi. In a statement released on Wednesday, APC Publicity Secretary Wasiu Olawale Sadare condemned the move, describing it as a “poorly conceived afterthought.”
Sadare alleged that the governor’s action is an attempt to mask the controversial conversion of the state-owned Trans Amusement Park in Ibadan into private housing estates.
“Erecting a gatehouse on public land that is being sold off is not a legitimate project worthy of commissioning by any serious government,” Sadare said.
He further emphasized that the late Akinremi earned his legacy through empowerment initiatives and genuine projects for his constituents, adding, “Gov. Makinde’s poorly scripted use of Akinremi’s name to endorse the estates on the grabbed land is tantamount to dancing on his grave under the guise of politicking.”
