PDP Slams Ganduje: Your Threat to Capture Ondo and the Southwest is Reckless
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the recent comments made by Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), regarding the party’s intention to “capture” Ondo State and the broader Southwest region. In a statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the remarks were described as reckless and threatening.
Ologunagba emphasized that the Southwest has a strong history of opposition and democratic values, expressing alarm over Ganduje’s choice of words.
He stated, “The term ‘capture’ implies forceful control or occupation, and we will not accept being enslaved in our own land.” He recalled historical events, such as the “wetie” crisis of the 1960s and the 1983 imposition of Akin Omoboriowo as governor, to illustrate the consequences of disregarding the people’s will.
The PDP asserted that any attempt by the APC to impose its control in Ondo State would face strong resistance from the populace.
Additionally, the party reiterated calls from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the redeployment of the Ondo State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), accusing the REC of bias and collusion with APC leaders.
