PDP Vows to Defeat APC in 2027 Despite Bye-Election Outcome
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that Nigerians will reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that hunger, insecurity, and poverty will dominate voters’ concerns.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba dismissed the recent by-elections as a mere “test run” by the APC for 2027, warning that the ruling party will face disappointment at the polls.
“What the APC did in those by-elections was simply to test the ground for 2027. But I have bad news for them: what happened in those by-elections will not happen in 2027,” Ologunagba said.
He accused the APC of exploiting poverty to manipulate voters but insisted that Nigerians are now wiser and will resist such tactics in future elections.
“Nigerians are hurting. The issues that will dominate the 2027 ballot are hunger, uncertainty, and insecurity—things no amount of money can buy votes for,” he stressed.
Ologunagba added, “The Nigerian people will defeat them because they brought hunger to this country. For more than 10 years, APC has been a source of pain for Nigeria.”
The PDP spokesman also alleged that security agencies were used to suppress opposition members during the by-elections, which filled 16 vacant state and national assembly seats across 13 states.
Addressing rumors about a parallel PDP convention in Abuja, Ologunagba dismissed the reports as mere speculation. He confirmed the party’s national convention is scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16.
“That report is purely speculation. The decision to hold the convention in Ibadan was made at the NEC meeting with INEC in attendance. The process is already underway,” he said.
He added that the APC tends to panic whenever it senses unity within the PDP and assured that efforts to create disunity within the party will fail.
