Peter Obi May Lead Atiku-Amaechi Campaign — APC Chieftain
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akindele Ayekooto, has suggested that Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, may not emerge as the presidential flagbearer of the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
According to Ayekooto, Obi is likely to serve as Director General of the Atiku-Amaechi Campaign Organization ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Posting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Ayekooto wrote:
“From the look of things, Peter Obi will be the DG of Atiku-Amaechi Campaign Organisation.”
His statement comes amid growing speculation that Atiku Abubakar, a key member of the opposition coalition, is preparing to contest the 2027 presidency. Atiku has recently reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption if elected.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi has also expressed his intention to run for the presidency again in 2027, raising questions about how the coalition will resolve competing ambitions within its ranks.
In addition, Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation and a prominent figure in the coalition, is also rumored to be eyeing the top seat, signaling a potential three-way contest for the ADC presidential ticket.
As the coalition gains momentum, internal negotiations over leadership roles and candidacies are expected to intensify in the months ahead.
