Peter Obi Reveals why He’ll Run for Only One Term in 2027
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to serving only a single four-year term if elected president in 2027. According to Obi, the decision is rooted in his desire to honor Nigeria’s informal zoning arrangement, which he described as a key stabilizing factor in the nation’s political system, despite its absence from the Constitution.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Obi emphasized that four years is sufficient time for a committed and visionary leader to make significant progress.
“One term is enough to establish that good governance is possible,” Obi said. “If negative impact can be made in two years, why can’t someone achieve positive results in four?”
He added, “I don’t need a day more than four years. I will show the direction of good governance. In two years, there has been maximum damage—two years can also bring meaningful change.”
Obi also underscored the importance of having a president who leads with compassion and genuine care for the people.
His recent public remarks reaffirm his earlier position that, if elected in 2027, he would serve one term and then hand over power.
