A group known as Obi for Nigeria in Rivers State has accused Manuchim Umezurike, the Labour Party member representing Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 1 in the House of Representatives, of engaging in anti-party activities. In a statement released toNIGERIA NEWS 247 by its state leader, Tony Chinda, the group called on the Labour Party leadership, its 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to closely monitor Umezurike.

The group alleged that despite being a Labour Party member, Umezurike has aligned himself with Governor Fubara amidst the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State. They labeled Umezurike a “sleeper mole” within the state government’s camp and criticized him for purportedly undermining party interests.

According to Chinda, Umezurike has failed to effectively represent his constituents, citing the absence of constituency projects and his alleged prolonged absence from legislative sessions. They accused him of indulging in anti-party activities with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and residing in the Government House of Rivers State.

Furthermore, Chinda highlighted Umezurike’s alleged disregard for the Labour Party’s state leadership, noting his absence from party activities and his associations with former suspended party leaders. The group expressed concern over Umezurike’s intentions to create a parallel party structure favoring Governor Wike.

They emphasized their initiative to recall Umezurike from office and called on constituents of Port Harcourt Constituency 1 to support the recall process. When contacted for a response, Umezurike dismissed the accusations, asserting that the allegations were unfounded and questioning the credibility of the group behind the statement.
