“Reps Give Green light to N1.91Trillion NDDC Budget”

The House of Representatives has approved the 2024 budget for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

On Wednesday, the House passed the N1.9 trillion budget after a detailed clause-by-clause review of the report presented by the Committee on NDDC.

Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Chairperson of the Committee, presented the report, which was considered by the Committee on Supply led by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

The budget includes allocations of N38.5 billion for personnel costs, N29.2 billion for overhead, N8.7 billion for internal capital projects, N1 trillion for legacy capital projects funded through borrowings, and N835 billion for other projects.

For revenue, the House approved N170 billion in arrears from the federal government, N1 trillion from borrowings, N324.8 billion from federal government contributions, N25 billion from ecological funds, and N12 billion carried forward.

The report was adopted without opposition.In terms of project allocation, the nine states within the commission will receive projects worth N1.5 trillion. An additional N284.9 billion is allocated to the head office.

Delta State received the highest allocation for projects with N284.9 billion, followed by Akwa Ibom with N243 billion and Bayelsa with N231 billion.

Rivers State was allocated over N225 billion for development projects, while Edo State received N155 billion, Ondo State N115 billion, Abia State N110 billion, Imo State N113 billion, and Cross River State N87 billion.
