Reps Member Warns Against Underestimating ADC in Cross River Ahead of 2027 Elections
Alex Egbunna, House of Representatives member for Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, has cautioned politicians not to dismiss the political threat posed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections in Cross River State.
Speaking to journalists in Calabar, Egbunna described the ADC as “nothing,” but quickly added that underestimating the party would be a grave mistake.
“Anybody who underrates the ADC in Cross River is not a serious politician. They are nothing, but we will not underrate them since the likes of former governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, are seriously involved and leading them in the state,” he said.
Acknowledging Imoke as his “boss and former principal,” Egbunna highlighted the former governor’s influence in state politics.
“In politics, you do not underrate any party. We’re going to match strength for strength, money for money, and connections for connections,” he vowed, adding, “That doesn’t mean they can defeat us in 2027.”
Egbunna expressed confidence in the ruling party’s achievements over the past two years, which he believes strengthens his chances for re-election.
On the opposition PDP’s future, he was dismissive:
“PDP can never regroup again. They are still tearing themselves apart. Everyone can see how their symbol, the umbrella, has torn. Their key members have abandoned it for the APC and other fragile opposition parties.”
