Residents Protest Lasisi Akinsanya’s Renomination as Igando-Ikotun LCDA Chairman
Residents of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) stormed the Lagos State APC secretariat in Ikeja to oppose the renomination of Lasisi Akinsanya for another term as chairman.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesters expressed dissatisfaction with Akinsanya’s leadership, citing lack of progress and underdevelopment in the LCDA during his tenure.
Comrade Olokodana Bukhari, speaking for the protesters, warned that endorsing Akinsanya’s candidacy would be “a recipe for disaster” in the 2025 elections and could hurt APC’s prospects in 2027.
Bukhari also criticized former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and APC chieftain Enilolobo for backing Akinsanya, accusing him of political alignment with figures not acting in the party’s best interests.
He alleged that Akinsanya failed to deliver during past elections and highlighted the council’s poor standing in the state’s development reports as evidence of stagnation under his leadership.
“All protesters here are residents without political affiliations,” Bukhari added, calling on APC leadership to reconsider Akinsanya’s candidature.
Mrs. Dayo Aderinmola, a women’s leader from the area, urged the party to investigate the issues raised, noting the community’s minimal development during Akinsanya’s administration.
Responding, APC state secretary Dr. Adeola Jokomba assured the protesters their concerns would be reviewed. He cautioned against external forces hijacking the protest and confirmed receiving the formal complaint.
Jokomba promised that party officials would contact the protest leader, Comrade Adebayo Ifedayo, before the week’s end.
