Six Prominent APC Figures Defect to ADC, Form Opposition Coalition Against President Tinubu for 2027
At least six high-profile members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The disgruntled APC figures, uneasy with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, formally joined opposition forces on Wednesday, taking over leadership roles within the ADC after adopting the party as their official platform to challenge the incumbent government.
The six key defectors include four former ministers from the Muhammadu Buhari administration:
-
Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation
-
Abubakar Malami, former Minister of Justice
-
Hadi Sirika, former Minister of Aviation
-
Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior
Also among the defectors are:
-
Kashim Imam, businessman and former TETFUND board chairman
-
Chief John Odigie Oyegun, former National Chairman of the APC
Their defection underscores growing cracks within the APC and represents a consolidated front aimed at wresting power from President Tinubu’s ruling party in 2027.
