Defection: Tinubu Welcomes Former Senate President Anyim to APC

President Bola Tinubu formally welcomed former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim into the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.

 

Anyim, who served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation during President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC.

The reception took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with Anyim being presented by a delegation led by Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Expressing his commitment to Nigeria’s progress, Anyim stated, “There is a need for all of us to work together to move the country forward.”

 

He announced his defection on Saturday, July 13, 2024, leading a group of his supporters into the APC during the party’s Local Government Area election campaign finale in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Anyim was accompanied by a large delegation, including former lawmakers, governorship candidates, and thousands of supporters from various parties, such as the Labour Party’s Edwin Nkwegu and Senator Obinna Ọgba, who also joined the APC.

APC leaders, including National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Uzodinma, Governor Francis Nwifuru, Minister of Works David Umahi, and State Chairman Stanley Emegha, welcomed the new members into the party.
