We inherited burden that tests our leadership sincerity – Shettima
During a Policy Roundtable Conference organized by the APC Professionals Forum on Asiwaju ScoreCard Series at Shehu Yaradua Centre in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the Bola Tinubu-led administration for addressing longstanding economic issues with long-term solutions rather than quick fixes.
Despite facing challenges that tested their leadership sincerity, Shettima emphasized the importance of critical decisions and policies for the country’s health and future. This statement was made on Tuesday, May 21st by the former governor of Borno.
It all started with the deliberate elimination of the fuel subsidy. This choice wasn’t made in isolation, but rather to address the concerning increase in the nation’s debt service-to-revenue ratio, which had reached unsustainable levels in recent years.
Reflecting on the challenging journey the administration has been on since its beginning, the Vice President emphasized that they arrived during a critical period that necessitated interventions to halt harmful practices jeopardizing economic stability.
This was a time that called for firm decisions to reallocate resources to more beneficial areas of our economy, and we approach this task with good intentions. Our belief in the continuity of government led our administration to make decisions that we believe are in the best interest of everyone.
In a plea for public understanding, the Vice President reassured Nigerians that the administration is committed to upholding integrity and not taking shortcuts.
He emphasized that the chosen path may require sacrifices but is crucial for ensuring a better future for Nigeria. As the government continues to implement its policies, there is optimism that economic indicators will improve, leading to significant growth in the near future.
Efforts to safeguard the nation’s economy have been successful in combating acts of economic sabotage orchestrated by individuals and groups seeking personal gain through illicit means like currency manipulation and corruption.
The Vice President expressed satisfaction with the progress made in strengthening the Naira, calling on all Nigerians to remain patient and united as they strive towards a future characterized by security, prosperity, and hope for everyone.
