Executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State have removed the party chairman, Alhaji Sala Umar, from his position.
In an official letter addressed to the party’s headquarters in Gusau, the council leadership stated that on September 23, 2024, they passed a vote of no confidence in the chairman during a meeting attended by two-thirds of the members.
The letter, signed by Nura Yusuf (Acting Secretary), Musa Muhammad (Legal Adviser), and Salisu Adamu (Ward Chairman), outlined that the decision was due to the chairman’s failure to adhere to party guidelines. The grievances included not convening meetings, skipping State Executive Committee meetings, making unilateral decisions, and causing disunity among members.
Additionally, they cited the chairman’s inability to lead effectively due to his advanced age and deteriorating health.
The letter stated, “Our actions are in accordance with the party’s constitutional provisions under section 59 (1) and (2).”
In response, the members elected Abubakar Maiwake, former Organising Secretary of the council, as the Acting Chairman. The letter also urged the State Working Committee to ratify the decision in the interest of the party.
