Aston Villa agree fee for Everton’s Amadou Onana to hit Man Utd hopes over Jarrad Branthwaite
If a deal is finalized, the addition of the Belgian player to Unai Emery’s team could enhance their squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign.
Everton has agreed to Aston Villa’s offer of £50 million for midfielder Amadou Onana. Despite this acceptance, the transfer is not finalized due to competing interest from other clubs in the Belgian player.
Aston Villa has matched Everton’s valuation of the 22-year-old, positioning him as a potential successor to Douglas Luiz following the Brazilian’s departure to Juventus.
Two years ago, Onana signed with Everton for a fee that could reach £30 million, potentially bringing profit to the Merseyside club.
Despite Lille having a sell-on clause, his addition could also help in retaining Jarrad Branthwaite, a target for Manchester United, if Everton makes another significant sale this summer.
If Onana is sold for £50 million, it would mark Aston Villa’s second-largest purchase ever, following Moussa Diaby’s arrival last year for up to £51.9 million.
Additionally, it would rank as Everton’s third most expensive sale in history, after Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Manchester United and Richarlison’s move to Tottenham.
This summer, Villa has made significant moves in the transfer market by acquiring Tim Iroegbunam as a central midfielder from Villa, potentially filling a key position.
Among their busy trading activities, Villa has also secured Lewis Dobbin from Everton, Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus, Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, and Ross Barkley from Luton. Additionally, they have loaned Philippe Coutinho to Vasco da Gama.
Currently, Everton and Tottenham are engaged in talks regarding a revised contract for Dele Alli. In the initial agreement from January 2022, Everton had committed to paying Spurs 10 million once Dele reached 20 appearances.
However, Dele has only made 13 appearances over the past two seasons due to being loaned to Besiktas in 2022-23 and missing the entire last season due to injuries and other challenges.
Nevertheless, Everton is open to retaining him and assisting in his career revival if a new agreement can be reached.
