Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, secured their fifth straight Women’s AfroBasket championship with a commanding 78-64 win over Mali. The victory marks Nigeria’s seventh overall title in the tournament’s history.

Under the leadership of head coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress extended their unbeaten streak at the AfroBasket tournament to 29 games. The team’s triumph also earned them an automatic qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Germany.

The final saw a strong start from Nigeria, who led 26-21 after the first quarter. Mali fought back in the second quarter, leveling the game at 41-41 by halftime. However, D’Tigress reasserted control in the second half, finishing the third quarter ahead at 61-56 and sealing the title with a 14-point margin.
