Bakhodir Jalolov Set to Return on October 6 to Face Little-Known Vitaly Kudukhov
Despite being one of the most decorated amateurs in recent heavyweight memory, Bakhodir Jalolov appears content to continue a slow and cautious rise through the professional ranks. The undefeated Uzbek southpaw (15-0, 14 KOs) is set to face Vitaly Kudukhov (7-3, 3 KOs) on October 6 as part of an IBA.PRO card in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The announcement, made just yesterday, has once again raised eyebrows about Jalolov’s level of opposition. While his amateur pedigree is indisputable—a two-time Olympic gold medalist with wins over the likes of Frazer Clarke, Richard Torrez Jr, and Teremoana Teremoana Jr—his professional résumé continues to underwhelm.
Now 31, Jalolov remains unbeaten but largely untested, with his most recognizable wins coming against seasoned but limited gatekeepers Kamil Sokolowski and Curtis Harper. His upcoming opponent, Kudukhov, has fought exclusively in Russia against relatively obscure competition and enters the bout with a modest record.
Though Jalolov remains a promising name in the division, critics argue that his lack of high-level pro experience is stalling his momentum.
Meanwhile, the main event of the card offers a more compelling matchup. Russian veteran Sergey Kuzmin will face rising prospect Murad Khalidov in an eight-round heavyweight contest that could test Khalidov like never before. Known for his durability and experience, Kuzmin may prove a tough gatekeeper for the unheralded newcomer.
For now, Jalolov’s career continues to tread water—but whether it’s by design or caution, fans and observers alike are still waiting to see him take the leap into deeper waters.
