Netflix Discloses Viewership Data for Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford Fight
Netflix has revealed that the recent showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford has become the most-watched men’s championship boxing match of the 21st century on its platform.
The highly anticipated bout, held last Saturday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, showcased a dominant performance by Terence Crawford. The 37-year-old American, with a perfect record of 42-0 (31 KOs), moved up two weight divisions to dethrone Canelo Alvarez, 63-3-2 (39 KOs), and become the first-ever three-division undisputed world champion in boxing history.
According to Netflix, the event drew a staggering 41.4 million viewers globally, based on the platform’s Average Minute Audience (AMA) metric—which estimates the average number of viewers watching per minute, including both live and next-day viewings.
Of that number, an estimated 36.6 million watched the fight live, while the peak number of concurrent streams—meaning the highest number of Netflix accounts viewing the event at the same time—reached 24 million.
Despite these impressive statistics, Canelo vs. Crawford still fell short of the record-breaking numbers set by the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson exhibition match in November. That event reportedly pulled in an AMA of 108 million live viewers, with total viewership for the weekend estimated at 125 million and a peak of 65 million concurrent streams—a benchmark that may prove difficult to surpass.
Still, Canelo vs. Crawford was a resounding success in its own right. Over 70,000 fans filled Allegiant Stadium, contributing to a live gate revenue of $47 million—ranking as the third-highest in boxing history, behind only Floyd Mayweather’s clashes with Manny Pacquiao ($72 million) and Conor McGregor ($55 million).
