Chelsea Appoint Enzo Maresca as New Manager

Chelsea FC has officially named Enzo Maresca as their new manager.

The former assistant coach at Manchester City and manager of Leicester City brings extensive experience to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans are eagerly awaiting how Maresca will influence the team’s strategy and performance in the upcoming season. The club’s announcement has generated excitement and optimism among supporters, who hope Maresca’s leadership will usher in a new era of success for the Blues.

In a post on the club’s X handle on Monday, Chelsea shared, “Welcome to Chelsea, Enzo Maresca!”

A club statement revealed that Maresca signed a five-year contract, starting his role on July 1, 2024, with an option for an additional year.

“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new head coach of the men’s team,” the statement read.

Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, expressed their enthusiasm: “We are delighted to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach capable of delivering impressive results with an exciting and identifiable style. Enzo has deeply impressed us in our discussions leading up to his appointment. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We thoroughly look forward to working with him.”

Chelsea’s ownership group also conveyed their excitement: “We are thrilled to welcome Enzo into the Chelsea family. We look forward to supporting him and the rest of the sporting team in fulfilling their potential and our expectations over the years to come. He is a highly gifted coach and leader that we are confident can help fulfill our vision and competitive goals for the Club.”

Maresca expressed his delight at joining the club, acknowledging its tradition of success and talented players. “To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity. I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud,” he said.

Maresca’s previous coaching experiences include stints with Ascoli, Sevilla, and West Ham United. He led Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad to the 2021 Premier League 2 title. After managing Parma and serving again as an assistant coach at Man City, he was appointed head coach at Leicester City in June 2023, where he guided the club to the EFL Championship title and promotion back to the Premier League in his first season.

Maresca’s coaching team will include former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javi Molina, and Roberto Vitiello. Ben Roberts will join as the goalkeeper coach and head of global goalkeeping, and Bernardo Cueva will lead the set-piece department.

NIGERIA NEWS 247 earlier reported that Chelsea were in talks to appoint Maresca as their new head coach, following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.
