Copa America 2024: Messi Sets New Record After Argentina’s Victory
Lionel Messi Sets New Records as Argentina Reaches Copa America 2024 Final
Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi, has broken Brazilian legends Cafu and Roberto Carlos’ record by reaching the most number of international finals (7). This achievement came after he led his team to the Copa America 2024 final.
Previously, both Cafu and Carlos had reached six finals for Brazil during their illustrious careers.
In addition to this milestone, the 37-year-old Messi surpassed Iran’s Ali Daei’s international goals record, becoming the second all-time top-scorer with 109 goals. He now trails only his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 130 goals to his name.
Messi tied Daei’s record of 108 goals just before the Copa America began, scoring twice in a 4-1 victory over Guatemala.
In the semi-final match, Messi netted a goal as Albiceleste secured a 2-0 win over Canada. His teammate Julian Alvarez also scored for the defending champions.
Argentina awaits the winner between Uruguay and Colombia for the Copa America 2024 final at Miami Gardens.
