Craig Shakespeare’s Passing: Man City’s Jack Grealish Shares Final Conversation with Former Coach
Manchester City star Jack Grealish has shared details of his last conversation with the late former Leicester City coach Craig Shakespeare.
In his tribute, Grealish recounted how Shakespeare encouraged him after he wasn’t included in England’s Euro 2024 squad. Shakespeare’s family announced on Thursday that he had “passed away peacefully at home” at the age of 60.
Reacting to the news, Grealish expressed his grief, saying he was “absolutely devastated.”
“Shakey was one of the greatest people I’ve ever met, not only in football but in life,” Grealish wrote on Instagram. “Last month, despite being ill, he was texting me when I didn’t make the Euros squad, which shows the kind of man he was.”
Grealish shared that Shakespeare had written to him, saying, “Jack, sometimes it’s hard to know what to say, but I’m gutted for you and thinking about you.”
Grealish added, “He had an absolute heart of gold! Everyone will really miss you, Shakey. Absolutely devastated. Sending all my love to his family.”
Grealish and Shakespeare had previously worked together at Aston Villa.
