England Finalizes 26-Player Squad for Euro 2024
England’s Final Euro 2024 Squad Confirmed, Some Big Names Miss Out
Manager Gareth Southgate has finalized England’s 26-player squad for Euro 2024, with notable absences among high-profile stars.
Southgate initially selected a preliminary 33-man roster for the friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland to evaluate options ahead of the summer tournament in Germany.
Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, both unused substitutes in the victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, were left out, and regular Three Lions player Harry Maguire was unable to recover from a calf injury in time.
In response, Southgate selected Lewis Dunk, Joe Gomez, and Marc Guehi as his center-back options alongside expected starter John Stones, with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite omitted.
Adam Wharton impressed during his first senior international camp, securing his spot in the squad. Declan Rice, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Gallagher, and Kobbie Mainoo were chosen for central midfield, with Jude Bellingham as an additional option.
In attack, Manchester City’s Jack Grealish did not make the cut, having started only ten Premier League games in the 2023/24 season. Instead, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Anthony Gordon were selected as wide options.
Southgate decided on three strikers, with captain Harry Kane joined by Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
