Enzo Maresca: Pedro Neto Is Devastated Over Diogo Jota’s Death
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that winger Pedro Neto is “very sad” following the tragic death of his Portugal teammate and close friend, Diogo Jota.
Jota, the Liverpool forward, died in a car accident in Spain alongside his younger brother, Andre. The devastating news has left the football community in mourning.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final clash with Palmeiras on Saturday, Maresca said Neto has been deeply affected and may be excused from the squad.
“Pedro is very sad, probably more than sad. We are close to support him in this moment,” Maresca stated.
“It’s completely Pedro’s decision [whether he plays against Palmeiras]. I had a chat this morning. We support any decision he takes.”
Neto and Jota, former Wolves teammates, recently played together for Portugal in their UEFA Nations League triumph. The pair shared a strong friendship, making the loss especially painful for Neto.
