Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has expressed his disappointment with England’s key players, stating they “didn’t turn up” at Euro 2024. Carragher shared his thoughts on X following England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final on Sunday.

Mikel Oyarzabal came off the bench to score the decisive goal for La Roja after Cole Palmer had equalized Nico Williams’ second-half strike.

In the aftermath of the game, there were calls for Gareth Southgate to step down as England manager. However, Carragher argued that the blame shouldn’t always fall on the manager.

He remarked, “Sven played 4-4-2, Fabio was too strict, Gareth is too defensive! Funny how it’s always on the manager, isn’t it?! The fact is our big players didn’t turn up in this tournament. And other tournaments going back years.”
