France Captain Kylian Mbappe has offered an intriguing explanation for Joao Felix’s missed penalty during the quarter-final clash at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg on Friday. Despite 120 minutes of goalless play, Les Bleus secured a spot in the semi-finals after winning the penalty shootout.

Mbappe suggested an unusual reason for Felix’s miss, attributing it to the intimidating presence of the France goalkeeper:

“Joao Felix seemed scared. I can’t say for sure, but when he hit the post, I think he was nervous about the goalkeeper anticipating his move. Our success in the shootout owed a lot to Mike’s presence.”
