Europa League: Key Details as Manchester United and Tottenham Learn Their Opponents
The Europa League is introducing a new format for the 2024/25 season, mirroring changes seen in the Champions League. FA Cup winners Manchester United and Premier League fifth-placed Tottenham are awaiting their group stage opponents, with the draw set for 12pm UK time on Friday.
This season, the Europa League will feature 36 teams in a single league format. Each team will compete against eight different opponents as they aim for the knockout stages.
An additional play-off round will precede the Round of 16.
Teams will face one opponent from each pot at both home and away. Clubs from the same country will not be grouped together, and each team will play no more than two opponents from the same nation.
Teams finishing between 9th and 24th place will enter a two-legged play-off to advance to the Round of 16, while those placed 25th to 36th will be eliminated from the competition.
