Everton has received a two-point deduction for violating PSR rules
Everton has received a two-point deduction for violating Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR). This penalty follows a previous deduction of six points, reduced from ten upon appeal, for another breach of financial regulations.
An independent commission recommended the latest penalty after scrutinizing Everton’s spending over a three-year accounting period ending in the 2022/23 season.
As a result of this deduction, Everton has slipped below Brentford into 16th place in the Premier League table, with only a two-point margin separating them from the relegation zone.
The club has announced plans to appeal this decision, citing concerns about the inconsistency of points deductions across different commissions.
They acknowledge the majority of issues raised by the club, including the concept of double punishment, mitigating circumstances related to the war in Ukraine, and the club’s cooperation and admission of breach.
Everton expresses gratitude to fan groups for their input and assures supporters of ongoing collaboration with the league on PSR matters.
