Ex-Chelsea Defender Tony Dorigo Backs Liam Delap to Emulate Drogba and Costa

Tony Dorigo, ex-Chelsea defender, has expressed confidence that new signing Liam Delap could reach the heights of club legends Didier Drogba and Diego Costa—if he can manage the pressure at Stamford Bridge.

Delap, 22, joined Chelsea this summer from Ipswich Town after the Blues triggered his £30 million relegation release clause. Speaking to GOAL, Dorigo said, “If Delap can handle the pressure that comes with playing for Chelsea, I think he has got a great chance of doing that.”

He added that Delap’s familiarity with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him at Manchester City, plus the support of teammates like Cole Palmer, should help the striker settle quickly and flourish.

Delap has so far scored one goal in four appearances at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the US.
