FIFA Club World Cup: Courtois apologizes to Real Madrid fans, Explains why PSG won
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has issued an apology to fans following the team’s heavy 4–0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday night.
The Belgian international addressed the media after the match, acknowledging the team’s poor performance and highlighting the tactical lapse that contributed to the defeat.
“We apologize to all our fans,” Courtois said. “Today was a bad hit, but we need to get up from it. The problem today is that we didn’t press as a team.”
Goals from Fabian Ruiz (brace), Ousmane Dembélé, and Gonçalo Ramos sealed a dominant win for the French champions, exposing defensive frailties in the Spanish side.
Following the loss, Real Madrid will now turn their focus to preparations for the 2025/26 season, aiming to bounce back stronger in both domestic and international competitions. The club finished second in LaLiga last season, behind arch-rivals Barcelona.
