Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has expressed his belief that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will revert to starting Kai Havertz over Viktor Gyokeres in the club’s key matches this season.

Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal from Sporting CP this summer, started ahead of Havertz in the Premier League opener against Manchester United but had a quiet game with just 21 touches and no shots on target before being substituted for Havertz.

Arsenal secured a 1-0 win thanks to Riccardo Calafiori’s goal, but Carragher thinks Havertz will reclaim his spot for major fixtures, particularly the upcoming clash against Liverpool.

“If I am being honest, I think they will go back to Havertz in the big games,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “I think Havertz, in Mikel Arteta’s eyes, is a player who is too important to be left out week after week.”
