Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has praised Enyimba Football Club of Aba following their dramatic 3-2 victory over Bendel Insurance in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.
The thrilling encounter at the Enyimba International Stadium saw the home side come from behind twice to secure all three points, with goals from Abiodun Joseph, Kalu Nweke, and Chidera Michael.
Bendel Insurance opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, briefly quieting the passionate Aba crowd. However, Enyimba responded in the 18th minute through Abiodun Joseph, bringing the home fans back to life.
Insurance regained the lead in the 59th minute, but Enyimba equalized again just seven minutes later when Kalu Nweke converted a penalty. The momentum then shifted decisively in Enyimba’s favor as Chidera Michael netted the winning goal in the 69th minute, sealing a memorable comeback. The win moves Enyimba to the top of the NPFL standings with 11 points from five games.
Governor Otti, who attended the match alongside members of his cabinet, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his excitement and pride.
“I had the pleasure of attending the thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between Enyimba Football Club of Aba and Bendel Insurance of Benin. In a match that tested resilience and character, Enyimba came from behind twice to secure a well-deserved victory,” he wrote.

The governor also commended the fans for their unwavering support, describing the atmosphere as “electrifying,” and expressed appreciation to the visiting Bendel Insurance team for their courage and sportsmanship.
He further acknowledged the efforts of the coaching staff, the Enyimba FC board, and the club’s chairman, Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo, for their leadership and dedication.
“Today, Enyimba FC showcased the true ‘can-do’ spirit of our people. On and off the pitch, we continue to prove that with unity and belief, greatness is always within reach,” Otti concluded.
