Ian Wright Picks Two Key Players Arsenal to Invest Heavily to Retain Permanently

Former Arsenal star, Ian Wright has praised defenders William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, urging the Gunners to keep the duo at the Emirates Stadium for the entirety of their careers.

Wright credited the pair as the key reason Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday. A first-half goal from Riccardo Calafiori sealed the win for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Speaking on the latest Arsecast podcast, Wright said, “These two [Saliba and Magalhaes] get into my team because they have everything, everything that we had back then. We’ve got ‘1-0 to the Arsenal’ back because of that defence and because of those two and what they’re capable of doing.”

He added, “That is why you can go to United and play like we did and win – because of what those guys are doing at the back.”

Wright concluded, “For me, I would pay them anything for them to stay for the rest of their careers here because they’re two of the best defenders we’ve ever had at our club.”
