Santos forward Neymar Jr has voiced his frustration with the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, sharply criticizing the decision to award Barcelona winger Raphinha fifth place in the prestigious award.

The 33-year-old Brazilian called Raphinha’s final position “a huge joke” on social media, expressing disbelief that his compatriot was ranked behind Ousmane Dembélé, Lamine Yamal, Vitinha, and Mohamed Salah.

Dembélé took home the 2025 Ballon d’Or on Monday night, with Yamal finishing second. Despite Raphinha’s outstanding season for Barcelona, Neymar felt the winger’s recognition fell far short of his contributions.

Last season, Raphinha played a key role in Barcelona’s success, helping the club secure both the LaLiga title and the Copa del Rey. The former Leeds United star was arguably the team’s standout player, tallying an impressive 56 goal contributions in 57 appearances.

Neymar’s candid critique highlights the ongoing debate over the Ballon d’Or rankings and the criteria used to determine football’s top individual performers.
