Griezmann Blasts Referees After Atletico’s Shocking Club World Cup Exit — ‘They Were Against Us
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann expressed his frustration following the team’s exit from the FIFA Club World Cup.
Although Atletico secured a 1-0 win against Botafogo on Monday, Griezmann’s goal was not enough for the side to progress. Diego Simeone’s team needed at least a 2-0 victory over the Brazilian club to advance to the Round of 16.
Despite finishing with six points, Atletico ended third in Group B behind Botafogo and Paris Saint-Germain due to a minus one goal difference, resulting in their elimination.
In his post-match interview, Griezmann revealed the squad’s disappointment over the result.
“We’re angry because we wanted more. We had enough time to score and win,” the French international said.
He also commented on refereeing decisions during the tournament, stating, “Clearly the referees went against us in this tournament, but sometimes they favor us and we don’t say anything.”
Griezmann concluded by emphasizing the team’s internal challenges: “It’s more of a football issue inside our team.”
