Joe Kinnear, a retired Tottenham Hotspur defender, has passed away at the age of 77
During his tenure from 1965 to 1975, Joe Kinnear enjoyed a fruitful decade as a player at Tottenham Hotspur, amassing over 250 appearances for the club based in north London.
His contributions were integral to Spurs’ triumphs in the 1966/67 FA Cup, the League Cup in 1970/71 and 1972/73, and the UEFA Cup during the 1971/72 season.
Following retirement, the Dublin-born defender transitioned into management, overseeing Wimbledon, Luton Town, Nottingham Forest, and Newcastle United, where he also served as the director of football in his final years in the profession.
Kinnear’s legacy as a manager is particularly revered by Wimbledon fans. He clinched the LMA Manager of the Year award and three Premier League Manager of the Month accolades during the remarkable 1993/94 season, steering Wimbledon to an impressive sixth-place finish in the top flight.
In a statement released by his family, they conveyed their sorrow at his passing, noting, “We are sad to announce that Joe passed away peacefully this afternoon surrounded by his family.” Beyond his achievements in England, Kinnear also served as the international manager for India in 1984 and Nepal in 1987.
