Juan Izquierdo, 27, dies after collapsing during Copa Libertadores match

Nacional defender Juan Izquierdo has tragically passed away at the age of 27. Izquierdo died just days after collapsing during a Copa Libertadores match in Brazil. His death was confirmed by both his Uruguayan club and South American football’s governing body.

In a heartfelt statement on social media, Nacional expressed deep sorrow, stating that Izquierdo’s loss is profoundly felt and that “all of Nacional is in grief for his irreplaceable loss.”

Izquierdo had collapsed on the pitch and was initially reported to be in a “stable condition” after being rushed to Hospital Albert Einstein. However, the hospital later revealed that he suffered “cardiorespiratory arrest associated with his cardiac arrhythmia.”

Izquierdo is survived by his wife and two children.
