Manchester United once again cancels their end-of-season awards ceremony following a dismal campaign.
The Red Devils had previously called off their end-of-season awards event, traditionally hosted at Old Trafford and attended by the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, towards the end of the 2021/22 season due to a dismal performance under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
The decision has been repeated this season, with the event initially slated for May 20 now removed from the calendar, as reported by The Athletic. Despite this cancellation, players will still receive annual accolades like the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, albeit without a specific ceremony.
The move aims to minimize distractions ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25. Despite a challenging season for the senior team, United’s broader club has seen success in 2023/24, with the women’s team clinching their inaugural FA Cup and the Under-18 side dominating the U18 Premier League North.
While these achievements would typically be celebrated at the awards ceremony, they will now be acknowledged through internal events. Additionally, the women’s academy teams have already conducted their own ceremonies to recognize accomplishments at the Under-21 and Under-18 levels.
