Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic death of his teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash on Thursday.

Jota, 28, was reportedly en route to the UK when the vehicle he was traveling in burst into flames. He died alongside his younger brother, Alex Silva.

In a heartfelt tribute posted online, Salah admitted he is dreading returning to Liverpool without Jota.

“I am truly lost for words,” Salah wrote. “Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me about going back to Liverpool after the break.”

“Teammates come and go, but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.”

He extended his condolences to Jota’s family, saying, “My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”

Salah and Jota had been teammates since 2020, when the Portuguese forward joined Liverpool from Wolves. During their time together, they won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and reached the 2022 UEFA Champions League final.
