The Nigerian Referees Association (NRA) has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to enhance the welfare package for match officials ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 League season.

President Sani Zubairu conveyed this appeal during the NRA’s 2024 Annual General Meeting held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, citing the escalating cost of living as a compelling reason.

Zubairu expressed appreciation to the NFF for their continued support and timely payment of match indemnities during the 2023/2024 season. He underscored the importance of settling all outstanding entitlements owed to referees.

Furthermore, Zubairu called upon all stakeholders in football to ensure adequate security measures are in place nationwide to facilitate referees in carrying out their duties effectively.

He also warned against any actions by clubs or local football associations that may incite violence from supporters against referees, emphasizing the NRA’s zero-tolerance policy on such incidents.

The new Nigeria Premier Football League is set to commence in August.
