The Rangers vs Enyimba game was abandoned following a late penalty call in favor of the Flying Antelopes during a Week 35 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match.

Sunday’s game, dubbed the Oriental Derby, was a title decider with Rangers leading the league standings with 60 points and Enyimba trailing by two points.

Fans turned out in large numbers for the fiercely contested match, which was going smoothly. However, with the game tied at 0-0, the referee awarded a late penalty to Rangers.

Enyimba players protested the decision, and despite efforts to resume play, chaos ensued when some fans invaded the pitch, disrupting the highly-anticipated match.

“Rangers 0-0 Enyimba #RANENY #NPFL24 #TheFinalStretch,” the NPFL posted on its X platform. “Match interrupted after penalty awarded to Rangers in added time.”

The scenes at the Cathedral were not fitting for a game of this magnitude. After the referee awarded the late penalty, Enyimba players left the pitch, and fans invaded the field, making the game inconclusive.
