UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Spain’s Álvaro Morata and Rodri for their involvement in singing a song claiming sovereignty over Gibraltar.

The players chanted the controversial song during Spain’s European Championship victory celebration.

In a statement released on Friday, UEFA announced that a disciplinary inspector is being appointed to assess whether the players’ actions violated UEFA’s regulations.

The song, which included the phrase “Gibraltar is Spanish,” was sung by Morata and Rodri on Monday, the day after Spain’s 2-1 win over England in the Euro 2024 final.

Gibraltar, located at the southern tip of Spain, has been a British overseas territory for over 300 years. The Gibraltar Football Federation lodged a formal complaint with UEFA on Thursday.
