South East and South South Volleyball Championship Inaugurated in Umuahia
The inaugural South East/South South volleyball tournament has commenced in Umuahia with Team Abia taking an early lead.
Governor Alex Otti, through his Deputy Ikechukwu Emetu, emphasized the importance of professionalism among athletes, highlighting the government’s commitment to sports development. The tournament, declared open at the indoor hall of Umuahia Township Stadium, aims to uncover youth talents and provide them with opportunities for international exposure.
Governor Otti’s administration was lauded for hosting the maiden edition by the National President of the Volleyball Association, while Nkechi Ezugwu, 2nd Vice President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, urged all participants to uphold professionalism and sportsmanship.
George Obioma, the State Director of Sports, expressed optimism that the competition would rejuvenate volleyball in the South East and South South regions, potentially paving the way for talented Abia youths to pursue careers as professional players abroad.
The championship features both male and female teams from across the South East and South South, promising spirited competition and fostering regional sporting excellence.
