Nigeria’s Flamingos delivered an impressive performance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, dominating Ecuador with a 4-0 victory in their second Group A match on Saturday night at Estadio Cibao, Santiago de Los Caballeros.

Under the guidance of Bankole Olowookere, the team controlled the match from start to finish, earning a place in the quarter-finals as the first team to secure six points from their two matches.

Shakirat Moshood stood out with two goals, starting with a penalty in the 28th minute and finishing with a goal six minutes into added time. Harmony Chidi added the second goal in the 54th minute, followed by a third from Peace Effiong.

The Nigerian side consistently pressured their opponents, registering 31 shots with 13 on target, indicating they could have increased their lead.

Looking ahead, Nigeria is favored to win their final group game against the Dominican Republic at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez, Santo Domingo, on Wednesday.

The Flamingos previously finished third in the last tournament held in India and have participated in every edition of the competition since its inception in 2008. They reached the quarter-finals in 2010, 2012, and 2014, and in the 2022 edition, they broke through to the semi-finals after defeating the USA.

In their tournament opener, NIGERIA NEWS 247 reported that the team had already secured a 4-1 victory over New Zealand.
