Barcelona Fined €32,000 by UEFA for Fan Misconduct, Including Racism

UEFA has imposed a €32,000 fine on Barcelona due to fan behavior during the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain. The club faced charges for various offenses, including damage to property, setting off fireworks, and racist conduct by supporters in the away section at Parc des Princes.

The breakdown of the fine includes €2,000 for the use of fireworks, €5,000 for property damage (including damaged seats), and an additional potential €7,000 to settle damages with PSG within 30 days.

For racist behavior, Barcelona must pay €25,000 and face a suspended ban on selling tickets for their next away match in UEFA competition. This ban could be enforced during the early stages of next season’s Champions League group stage, with a probationary period lasting until April 18, 2025.

The racist behavior included Nazi salutes and other offensive gestures. Previously, Barcelona pledged to investigate allegations of racist abuse directed at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior during a match in October.

With this formal punishment from UEFA, attention will be on the conduct of Barcelona’s fans during their upcoming match against Madrid at the Bernabeu. Barcelona was eliminated from the Champions League by PSG, losing 4-1 in the second leg, ending their hopes of securing a European title this season.
