Qatar’s top pair, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, secured their third gold medal of the year after a hard-fought victory over Cuba’s Jorge Alayo and Noslen Diaz. In a tightly contested battle, the Qatari duo emerged victorious in three sets, 2-1 (21-14, 17-21, 18-16), showcasing their resilience under pressure.
The bronze medal went to the Netherlands, where Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot staged a comeback to defeat Latvia’s Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots.
Brazil’s Solberg & Cavalcanti Delight Home Crowd in Women’s Final
On the women’s side, Brazilian duo Carol Solberg and Rebecca Cavalcanti thrilled the Copacabana faithful with a stunning comeback against fellow Brazilians Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes. After dropping the first set, Solberg and Cavalcanti rallied to take the match 2-1 (18-21, 21-18, 15-11), claiming gold on home sand.
In the women’s bronze medal match, the USA secured a podium finish as Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft swept past compatriots Molly Shaw and Kelly Cheng in straight sets, 2-0 (21-13, 24-22).
