Czechia Defeats Iran to Reach Semifinals at 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship
Czechia’s remarkable run at the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in the Philippines continued on Thursday as they defeated Iran 3-1 (22-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-21) in a thrilling quarterfinal showdown in Manila.
After dropping the first set, Czechia rallied with poise and precision, winning the next three sets on the back of disciplined play and fewer unforced errors. The comeback was anchored by standout performances on both ends of the court.
Libero Milan Monik delivered a defensive masterclass, keeping rallies alive with timely digs and clean reception, while opposite hitter Patrik Indra led all scorers with 22 points and an impressive 69% success rate. Outside hitter Lukas Vasina was equally instrumental, contributing 21 points and applying consistent pressure on Iran’s defense.
For Iran, Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh and Ali Hajipour each notched 18 points, but the team’s strong start unraveled amid a string of costly unforced errors, allowing Czechia to take control of the match.
With the win, Czechia advances to Saturday’s semifinal in Pasay City, where they will face Bulgaria, who emerged from the other quarterfinal. It marks Czechia’s first-ever appearance in a World Championship semifinal, as their underdog story continues to captivate volleyball fans worldwide.
In the other semifinal, defending champions Italy will face Poland in a heavyweight battle between two of the sport’s elite nations.
The 2025 Men’s World Championship concludes on September 28 in Manila, with fans eagerly watching to see whether Italy can retain their crown or if a new champion will be crowned.
