Italian Volleyball Teams, Azzurri and Azzurre Make History in 2025 with Global Success
The year 2025 will go down in history as a golden chapter for Italian volleyball, as both the men’s and women’s national teams delivered standout performances on the international stage. With titles, streaks, and world dominance, Italy has firmly established itself as a powerhouse in the sport.
Women’s Team: A Perfect Season Under Velasco
Guided by veteran coach Julio Velasco, the Italian women’s team completed a flawless campaign, capturing titles at both the Volleyball Nations League in Poland and the World Championship in Thailand.
The Azzurre were unstoppable, winning all 22 matches played across the two tournaments and extending their unbeaten run to 36 matches. Out of 79 sets played, they claimed 66, achieving a remarkable 83% set-win rate.
Their dominance is now reflected in the global rankings, where Italy leads the pack at No. 1 with 484.15 points, sitting more than 50 points ahead of second-placed Brazil.
Men’s Team: Power and Consistency Under De Giorgi
The Italian men, coached by Ferdinando De Giorgi, also had a stellar season. After securing silver at the Volleyball Nations League in China, the team reaffirmed their global standing by successfully defending their World Championship title in the Philippines.
Across all competitions, the Azzurri posted 18 wins from 22 matches, winning 59 of 82 sets, translating to a solid 72% set-win rate. Their consistency lifted them to second place in the world rankings, with 385.02 points, just five behind leaders Poland.
