Italy Defeats Argentina to Reach 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship Quarterfinals
Reigning champions Italy kept their title defense alive with a vital victory over Argentina, booking their place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship. After a shaky start, the Azzurri regrouped, showed resilience, and imposed their game to secure the win in commanding fashion.
Despite Argentina’s aggressive start, particularly from the service line, Italy held their nerve. Fabio Balaso credited the team’s unity for the turnaround: “It was a really tough match. We knew they would push hard on serve, and after a complicated start, we reacted, stayed united, and imposed our rhythm. When the team works well, everything becomes easier. This was a team victory.”
Giovanni Gargiulo echoed Balaso’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s determination: “They are a high-level team and gave us nothing easily. The key was patience—we never fell apart, we kept believing, and we fought for every point. This win proves we can compete with anyone, but we must stay humble.”
Head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi praised the group’s composure and adaptability, especially after early errors: “Argentina is always difficult to face. After early mistakes, the team found rhythm and confidence. Serving and blocking improved, and that turned the match. It’s an important step, but we can still grow.”
With momentum on their side and a spot in the final eight secured, Italy now looks ahead with renewed confidence—determined to defend their crown and continue their path toward another championship.
