Serbia Volleyball Enters Transitional Phase with Strong Trust in Coaching Team
Serbia’s volleyball, long recognized as a global powerhouse in both men’s and women’s competitions, experienced a difficult year marked by more losses than wins. As both squads undergo a generational shift, the results have often brought frustration rather than celebration. Nevertheless, the Volleyball Federation of Serbia views this phase as an essential part of the team’s renewal process.
In an interview with Sportski Žurnal, Ivan Knežević, Secretary General of the federation, reflected on the current state of Serbian volleyball, the lessons from the past season, and the vision moving forward.
Knežević acknowledged that the turbulence was expected, given the focus on integrating younger players into the senior squads. “This year was not just about results, but about giving emerging talent the opportunity to develop and gain experience,” he said.
When asked about the balance between successes and setbacks, he admitted the season had more challenges than rewards but emphasized that such periods are inherent to any rebuilding effort.
Regarding the future of the coaching staff, Knežević was unequivocal. Both Gheorghe Crețu, who leads the men’s team, and Zoran Terzić, head coach of the women’s squad, maintain the federation’s full confidence. Their work is viewed as foundational for long-term projects that require time and patience to mature.
Looking ahead, the federation remains optimistic. With a steady commitment to consistency, patience, and a clear strategic vision, Serbian volleyball aims to return to its traditional heights of success.
