Clintons, Obama, and Pelosi Commend Biden for Withdrawing from Presidential Race
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from his White House reelection bid on Sunday and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
In a joint statement, the Clintons commended Biden’s “extraordinary career of service” and expressed their “honor” in endorsing Harris as the Democratic nominee, pledging their full support for her campaign.
“Nothing has made us more worried for our country than the threat posed by a second Trump term. He has promised to be a dictator on day one,” the Clintons stated.
Former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also lauded Biden’s decision, calling him “one of the most consequential Presidents in American history” and a “patriotic American who has always put our country first.” She expressed her “love and gratitude” to him in a statement.
Additionally, Barack Obama praised Biden’s move, describing it as a testament to Biden’s “love of country” and acknowledging the challenges ahead of the November 5 election. Obama affirmed that Biden had “every right” to run for reelection, calling him a “patriot of the highest order.”
“We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges,” Obama said.
